Black and white photograph North Carolina Museum of History - NCMOH (Kent Thompson, 17 May 2022) Carbine Williams is well known as the inventor of the floating chamber used in the M1 carbine. He made a number of guns while in prison.
His story became a popular movie with same name, Jimmy Stewart played his role. The museum has an absolutely huge collection of Carbine Williams materials and firearms. I have done a lot of work on that collection. Very colorful story with moonshine and all sorts of history wrapped up and many popular figures of the past
