Julia Margaret Cameron was one of the few women to make a name for herself as a photographer in the nineteenth century. Born in India, she lived in England for a long time. The romantically transfiguring manner of her works distinguish them as testimonials to the Victorian era. Cameron's favourite model was her niece Julia Duckworth, the mother of Virginia Woolf. The niece's tender profile gleams out of the dark background of her portrait. Light and shade flatter her facial features and lend her a gracious air.
