Demachy (1859-1936) was a founder along with Constant Puyo of the Photo Club de Paris in 1894. This photograph, reproduced from a gum bichromate print, was published as a photogravure titled "Street in Mentone" (sic) in Camera Work #5 (1904). According to a tourist website, Menton is the warmest spot along the south coast of France "which is probably why it became a hotspot for Queen Victoria, artists and writers in the 19th-century. "
