Venice, Palazzo Fascari with a portion of Palazzo Guistiniani, from the Portico of Palazzo Mosolino

Daguerreotype
National Science and Media Museum
Part of the Ellis group of daguerreotypes, Inventory no: 1890-56-V13

Landscape view across a canal in Venice, of the Palazzo Foscari. This is of brick with stone corners. It comprises four storeys: on the lower floor are four rectangular windows. An arched entrance is flanked by a pair of narrower arches; on the next floor up are gothic arched windows with an arcade, balcony and balustrade in the centre; on the next floor are gothic arched windows with gothic tracery and a similar arcade and balcony; further gothic windows and tracery are found on the top floor below the roof. On the left side of the roof a dormer window is seen, with chimney pots on either side. A boat with sails draped is moored in front of the palace. A decorative four-storey building joins the palace to the left. To the right, the canal appears to turn at a right angle. A more modest three-storey building is visible on the further side.
