Eugène Atget 1909 (ca) Le Cherche Midi - Rue du Cherche-Midi [37]
Photograph, back Bazar Nadar / Wouter Lambrechts Titled "Le Cherche Midi - Rue du Cherche-Midi [37]" with negative number "5619". There is another, slightly different, version of this image in the collection of BnF, Paris. We can date this one ca. 1909.
Although the reverse of this print is titled by the photographer ‘Le Cherche Midi,’ the image actually shows the doorway of the "hôtel des Conseils de guerre", which was across the street from the Cherche Midi prison. This military prison, which no longer exists today, operated from 1847 to 1950. (the verso is in the answer to this post)
