Provided by the artist - Claudia Kunin This is a photograph taken of my mother in Salzburg before she met my father. Due to unusual circumstances, she was the ONLY Jew in Salzburg that had not been deported by the Nazi's who occupied Austria at the time. I found this coin that she had brought back to America with her issued by the Nazi's during their occupation. It may even have been in her pocket when this photo was taken. She is looking to see how the coin will fall, to determine her fate. Either she will end up in a Concentration Camp, or she will come to America as a war bride and end up having a family. She is not attached to the outcome.
