Godfrey N. Frankenstein (artist) n.d. Samuel A. Bemis
Painting Notchland Inn Editorial comment by Rob Bermudas (14 Feb 2012)
Godfrey N. Frankenstein was a friend of Bemis. I suspect they met in Boston. They were corresponding by the 1840s and both vacationed in New Hampshire where Bemis took him into the backcountry to paint. During one or more of those trips Edward Tuckerman (geologist) and William Oakes (botanist) traveled with them. This painting currently hangs in the Notchland Inn, Bemis' former home in Crawford Notch.
