Lithograph
Sotheby's - Paris

Lithograph in Charles Thomas Newton, 1862-1863, A history of discoveries at Halicarnassus, Cnidus and Branchidae, (London: Day & Son).

The lower plate is based on a salted paper print made in June 1858, "Raising the colossal lion at Cnidus", The British Library, Add. MS 31980 f.196. The colossal lion statue shown here is in the British Museum and the archaeologist Charles Thomas Newton poses by the head of the lion.
