André Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri
n.d.
"DISDÉRI PHOTOGRAPHIÉ PAR CHAM." (Disdéri Photographed by Cham)

Cartoon
Bazar Nadar / Wouter Lambrechts
Artist Cham.

Captions for each panel (from left to right):
  1. "Disdéri devant une tête qui ne lui dit pas grand-chose"
(Disdéri in front of a face that doesn’t say much to him.)
  2. "Disdéri devant une tête qui lui dit quelque chose."
(Disdéri in front of a face that says something to him.)
  3. "Disdéri devant une tête qui l’inspire énormément."
(Disdéri in front of a face that inspires him enormously.)
This comic strip humorously portrays the different levels of inspiration the photographer Disdéri experiences while photographing various subjects. The progression in the panels suggests an increasing emotional or artistic response, from indifference to profound inspiration. Cham, a well-known caricaturist of the time, captures the humor and charm of Disdéri's role as a photographer.
