(Curatorial description, 10 August 2021)
Daguerreotype of James Fenimore Cooper wearing a dark suit coat with white shirt and black cravat, and possibly a ruffled vest. Pinned to the opposite side of the case is "One of the Brady daguerreotypes taken just before my grandfather's death, and considered a very good likeness at the time." Case is lined with red velvet with a floral pattern pressed in. The lining surrounding the daguerreotype is also red velvet. The framing around the image is gilded metal with a line work pattern on the outer edge and an embossed gold mat with embossed decorations on the edges. Case is leather covered wood with stippled covering.
