Edward S. Curtis 1912 Plate 300 - A Chiefs's Daughter - Skokomish [The North American Indian - Portfolio IX - (1967 - Deli Sacilotto)]
"Pride of birth played a prominent role in the life of the Pacific Coast Indians. Society was rigidly divided into nobility, common people, and slaves taken in war. No woman of common birth could afford the luxury of the fur robe worn by the subject of this picture."
Reprinted in 1967 from the original Curtis copper photogravure plates by master printer Deli Sacilotto for the Boston bookseller Charles Lauriat. Each sheet of wove paper is watermarked "Tweedweave" - and the edition was limited to 17 copies.
