Gardner & Gibson
1862, July
#593 Ruins at Manassas, after Jackson's Raid, July, 1862
[Incidents of the War]

Stereoview, detail
Jefferson Stereoptics
Courtesy of John Saddy (Auction, Tues. August 29th & Thurs. August 31st, 2006, # 06-3, Lot 300)

NEW INFORMATION: I thank Joel Scharf for the following, which injects some mystery into this lot; "I just want to call your attention to lot 300 which is described as 'Ruins at Manassas,' which, according to William Frassanito, is actually a photo of Bloody Lane at Antietam. As we discussed before, Frassanito is the noted expert on photos of most eastern theater views. I don't know if this makes lot 300 suspect but it is unusual to find Gardner and Gibson to so mistakenly label a stereoview. As far as I know, there were never any photos taken at Manassas right after the battle that showed war dead."
