Dr Diamond was educated at Norwich Grammar School and went on to train at the Royal College of Surgeons. In the 1850s he was to become one of the founder members of the Photographic Society of London and did much to popularise photography. As a doctor he specialised in mental illness and he is noted for his remarkable portraits of people with mental disorders.
