This is an excellent 1/6 plate portrait still originally sealed in an oval mat, with a slight haze under the glass. On the green lining on the inside case back several dates are written in a period hand: "New Years day 1856." Then, in a drawn rectangle, "December 5./ Finale Sept 20, 1856." This suggests some kind of fascinating narrative.
