The title, "Newhaven Fish-Women", comes from an album in the SNPG. Stevenson observes that Hill used this as a study for his painting "Edinburgh from the Castle, 1847". This print is mounted on a card titled in ink "A Original Print by D.O. Hill RSA Rock House Calton Hill Edinburgh 1840 Francis Inglis".
