The Temple of Edfou [Egypt]

Daguerreotype, 1/4 plate
Private collection
Daguerreobase

Daguerreotype og the month - June 2014 (www.daguerreobase.org)

This months daguerreotype is from the French daguerreotypist Alphonse-Eugène-Jules Itier (1802-1877).

During his voyages to the far east in the early 40ths Itier, as chief of commercial missions, experimented with the new daguerreotype process. After returning from Singapour to France he shortly later started a new trip to Egypt in December 1845. In his cases were 30 daguerreotype plates. This wonderful view of the Edfou temple is one of them.
