Iwao Yamawaki was born in Nagasaki, Japan and studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau between 1930-1932. There he took classes in architecture, interior design and later photography with Walter Peterhans. After his return to Japan, he founded an architectural firm, which became one of the most prominent in postwar Japan. Abstract still-lifes, images shot at an angle and extreme close-ups are the focus in his photography.
