Background to collection:
Captain George Turnour Horton Atchison was in China serving with the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot and was Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master General to the troops in north China. He was present at the capture of the Taku Forts and the campaign of 1860 (Second Opium War). Atchison died at Tientsin (Tianjin) on 21 July 1861, aged 28.
