Haram al Sharif - meaning The Noble Sanctuary - is also known as the Esplanade of the Mosques and is one of the holiest sites of Islam. The Ghawanima minaret, visible in the distance, is a distinctive feature of the Haram al Sharif site and is among the tallest landmarks of the Old City of Jerusalem.
This plate shows, in the foreground, the ruined remains of buildings that were once a part of the Arab Quarter.
