This well-known Rau photograph was taken in 1894.
 
Rau's dates are 1856-1928. Rau, born in Dresden, was a gifted amateur German art photographer who was a partner of the graphic institute for art affiliated with Meisenbach, Riffarth & Co. in Berlin. In this capacity, he was an engraver. Rau is also known as a painter and is perhaps best known for his landscape paintings.
