This albumen print forms part of Norfolk Record Office holdings from the following archive: Eaton Collection, reference ETN 3/6/13 (Framed photographs taken by Dr Hugh Welch Diamond, acquired by T.D. Eaton). Eaton was a Norwich silk merchant, musician and early photographer. Dr Diamond was educated at Norwich Grammar School and went on to train at the Royal College of Surgeons. In the 1850s he became a founder member of the Photographic Society of London and did much to popularise photography. As a doctor he specialised in mental illness and he is noted for his remarkable portraits of people with mental disorders.
