Grain mill driven by wind. Note the upright sails made of matting. These sails drive the shaft attached to which is the top millstone. Very strong wind is needed to make the axle revolve. The “Wind of the 100 days” blows during the summer in that part of Afghan. Shot taken about 30 miles west of Herat, between Iranian border and Herat. (There are very few windmills left of that style.).
