Genthe's autobiography As I Remember, published in 1936 was reprinted at least twice. Defining the concept of Photographic Mask, Genthe sought to go beyond the surface record or commonplace record of clothes and a photographic mask, in an attempt to capture with the camera more of a human being's essence.
