Photograph shows a group portrait of disabled veterans on the steps of the Southern Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Hampton, Virginia. The soldier's home was about three miles from Fort Monroe, and under the command of Captain P.T. Woodfin, Deputy Governor and Treasurer. The Southern Branch may be the first federal facility specifically planned and established as an integrated facility. (Source: National Park Service)
