French sixth plate daguerreotype of a young woman holding flower ca. 1850s. With applied tinting in flesh tone, red (to the flower), and gilt. Housed in a full morocco-leather case.
A finely composed image with flesh-tone applied overall to the sitter's skin.
The daguerreotype's current housing replaces a now-defunct wall frame. Case is in excellent condition but does not close tightly enough to hook closed, padding slightly loose. There is some loss of the silver in areas underneath the mat.
