Strenges Ballett, Hommage à Oskar Schlemmer (Ballet rigide, Hommage à Oskar Schlemmer)

Gelatin silver print
Private collection of Henri van der Tol
(Henri van der Tol, 8 March 2022) Bauhaus artist Oskar Schlemmer made a ballet called Triadisches Ballet in 1912 in which ballet dancers came to look more like machines. Otto Steinert's image of a rotating wire sculpture was influenced by Oskar Schlemmer's movement and figure studies at the Bauhaus. A variant of the figure in the image offered here was used in one of Steinert's most important works entitled “Strenges Ballet".
