(Nora Hague,18 March 2022) In Notman's Picture Books occasionally there are blank spaces, with "Not to be put in" written across the space. Occasionally a photograph has been put in but with a piece of paper pasted over the image. The one I'm posting is a case of the latter. Whether it was done to preserve the privacy of the sitter, or to protect his female clerical staff from disturbing images is unknown.

Miss Annie Smith was a patient of Dr. Fenwick, one of the first doctors to use photography to document his orthopaedic cases. We did modify the Picture Book by picking the pasted-on cover paper off.
