Healy "Princess Elisabeth with Princess Marioara" that hangs in Peles Castle. When Princess Maria of Romania (1870-1874) died of scarlet fever on 9 April 1874 it was a devastating loss for her parents King Carol I of Romania and his wife, Elisabeth of Wied. The happy facial expression of Elisabeth in the photograph has changed to one of intense sadness in the oil painting.
