Wearing the opposite sex's clothes was not punishable - and at the beginning of the 20th century there was no interest in the police if a man dressed or behaved like a woman other than if he used the clothes for fraud.
 
Carl August Lundström (1862-1915) was guilty of a series of crimes in the late 19th century and therefore occurs in several interrogations in the Stockholm police's archive. When Lundström was questioned, the police usually seized on one of the photographic business cards that Lundström had, why five such pictures of Lundström were preserved for posterity. In the interrogation, it is often stated that Lundström has been dressed in women's clothes, as in the picture here.
