Thomas Bevan
1867 (ca)
Half-length profile portrait of man with scarification on chest and upper arms, holding a spear. Plain studio background. [Australia, Queensland; Brisbane]

Carte de visite
Pitt Rivers Museum
Estate of Frederick Dammann - Purchased 1901, 1998.249.41.8

Research Notes
The original print which Dammann copied was collected by a German, Julius Ferdinand Berini, who was resident in Brisbane until 1869 and thereafter South Australia, who subsequently shared Australian photographs with Dammann. Another Dammann copy of this photograph is in the British Museum collection (Oc,A3.48) with an inscription on the reverse stating 'Dr Berini', indicating that he was the source of the original.
