CDV with Jackson Bros. "Photograph of Indians" Omaha backstamp. "Sioux" in pencil on verso, but the correct identification is supplied by a print in the National Anthropological Archives (Information here and in other Indian lots thanks to Mike Cowdrey.) Seated in his buffalo robe, he holds a pine branch. Cowdrey notes the rare feature of the white turkey feathers with black bars worn in his hair. This exotic Eastern bird (not officially recognized until 1971) had probably been brought by a New England family following the Oregon Trail. The print is clean with no damage, but slightly light.
