Shields (208 Coll. Ave E., St. Louis)
1896, 27 May
Damage done by a tornado in St. Louis on May 27, 1896

Print, warm-toned
7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in (image) 10 x 12 in (mount)

Capitol Gallery
Courtesy of Capitol Gallery (Fall 2008 Auction, #84)

The scene is identified in ink on the mount as B Street and Douglas school in the distance. We see a great deal of destruction to the buildings and wagons, with men scattered throughout the image. A large pile of wheel frames and horseshoes are seen in the foreground.
