Daguerreotype, 1/6 plate Archives of Modern Conflict OR National Gallery of Canada Studio image of conservatively dressed gentleman putting quill pen to paper with ink well nearby, giving us a message that the written word was important in his life. A much more specific clue is the prominence of his Phi Beta Kappa key hanging from a chord around his neck and anchored to his vest pocket. (Matt Isenburg)
