Three ladies reading a letter

Tintype, carte de visite mount

Two ladies posed as if surreptitiously reading the letter held by a third, in front of an elaborate painted backdrop, ca. 1860s. With reverse imprint reading "Only at Le Roy's Gem Gallery 78 Water Street, (Cor. Third,) Newburgh, N.Y."

A true gem, with magnificent posing, on the classical theme of women attempting to discover another's secrets.
