Sale 756: Decorative and Graphic Arts with Illustrated & Antiquarian Books, Fine Press & Fine Bindings 03/10/2022, Lot: 302

27 pp. + 50 gravure plates from photographs. 22.2x17.3 cm (8 1/4 x 6 3/4 in.), half original cream cloth lettered in black, rebacked with original spine strip laid on, newer red cloth covering the original cloth on the remainder of the covers, new endpapers. First Edition. Rare and very unusual works of anatomy for artists, with a "Dance of Death" concept underlying the work - 24 of the plates have a posed skeleton, with a facing plate picturing a nude model in the same pose - there are both male and female models. The final two plates are both skeletal, one a figure being nailed to a cross, the other wielding the mallet and nail.
