The shtetl of Zinkovets on the Smotrich River was a suburb of Kamenets. In the 1840-s, it had 999 residents, of which 37 percent of Jews, mostly poor artisans, coachmen, and unskilled laborers.
The photograph was displayed at the Russian Ethnographic Exhibition of 1867 in Moscow.
