A set of 15 CDV's, each having an albumen photograph of one of the notes made from proof impressions from the Treasury Department. These were published in 1866 by the American Photograph Company, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Copyright by R. C. Narramore. Denominations range from One Dollar to Five Hundred Dollars. The national currency was established by the National Banking Acts of 1863 and 1864, and many more banks were established after the War. These CDV's were intended to show examples of the official notes, to use to detect forgeries. One would compare a note that was presented with the image on the appropriate CDV, to see if it matched.
