Luxurious French stereoscopic daguerreotype with hand coloring, sparkling jewels on the woman's bracelet and necklace. The stereo effect is very well realized. This chair and curtain appear in other images in this genre. A variant is in "Die Erotische Daguerreotypie; Sammlung Uwe Scheid" p. 79, bottom. A stereoscopic daguerreotype with this chair is attributed to Alexis Gouin/Braquehais in Janet Buerger, "French Daguerreotypes," No. 214.
 
Affixed to the black paper backing is a label from a 1998 Christie's NY auction.
