Illingworth & Bill
1866
No. 245 Camp at White Bear Den, D.T.
[Crossing the Plains to Montana with Captain Fisk's Expedition, 1866]

Title and imprint on the mount, with No. "245" in the negative. This photograph was actually by Illingworth and Bill, who sold the negatives to Carbutt. George Bill had been Carbutt's assistant and seems to have been Illingworth's. In this view we can just see, in the lower left, Bill's photograph box, mostly cropped out by Carbutt to disguise the origin. In the background we can see the protective circle of wagons, but there are tents pitched in front.
