Abduction of Charlie Brewster Ross (Pinkerton's National Detective Agency)

Circular, with attached albumen print
Michael Dawson Gallery
Philadelphia: Wm. F. Murphy's Sons, Printers, Stationers, 509 Chestnut Street; (1874). 4 pp. (p. (4) blank: albumen photograph portrait: 10 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches.

Rare original 1874 reward circular distributed by Pinkerton's National Detective Agency offering $20,000 for the recovery of the abducted child and conviction of his kidnappers.

One of the earliest uses of an original photograph on a reward notice. The most famous kidnapping case until the Lindberg abduction.

Rare, just 4 copies located on OCLC (Huntington Library, Chicago History Museum, University of Michigan and Harvard) with other copies at Library of Congress (apparently only the first leaf) and the American Antiquarian Society.
