Weegee
1950s
Distortion (United Nations Building).

Silver print
7 x 5 1/4 in (17.8 x 13.3 cm)

Swann Galleries - New York
Courtesy of Swann Galleries (Auction, Oct 15, 2007, #2124, Lot 135)

With the Johnston Collection hand stamp on verso.

Acquired by Suzanne and Hugh Johnston directly from Weegee. Although there are variations of this image, it is believed that this print is unique.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnston are documentary filmmakers who met Weegee in 1956. They worked with him for the next six years shooting experimental motion picture footage with Weegee's innovative lenses.

In the International Center of Photography "Weegee's World," in 1997, an eleven-minute experimental film entitled, "Weegee-New York-1957" was shown. Susanne Johnston wrote a memoir of their experiences and projects the couple shared with the photographer in "As I Remember Weegee."
