A ferry emblazoned "Rock Island" is docked on the near shore. According to Way's Packet Directory, the only Rock Island in operation during the ambrotype era was a side-wheel ferry built at New Albany, Indiana, and operating between Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa.
