Fairmount Waterworks Ph'a
[American scenery of all parts of the country]

Stereoview
Library Company of Philadelphia
Accession number: P.9356.1

View looking from the west bank of the Schuylkill River showing the Fairmount Water Works and Schuylkill Canal lock. Shows the old engine house, altered old mill house with peristyle temple, and the standpipe and pavilion on Reservoir Hill. Also shows a pile of wood planks on the canal lock in the foreground and the Wire Suspension Bridge at Fairmount in the far right background. The waterworks, originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff, were altered and expanded after the designs of Philadelphia engineers Henry P.M. Birkinbine and Frederick Graff, Jr. until 1872.
