Daguerreotype Wes Cowan (Facebook, The Daguerreian Society, 26 July 2016) wrote: "This plate was exposed in what is now Oklahoma, and is the earliest image taken in that state. It is also the earliest photograph that has survived from a Government sponsored expedition to the West."
