Heliographed (Plate) & Printed by: Meisenbach, Riffarth & Co. (Berlin)

A variant of this photograph was included in Photo-Club de Paris 1896, pl. XXXII - "Sommeil" and in Camera Notes: October, 1897 (Halftone).

Unlike the two previous publications, Puyo elected to supply Goerke with a slightly different version of this photo. In this version, the sleeping woman's hair is more fluffed up-obscuring her cleavage and giving the effect of a bit more modesty as she partially holds open a book as if she had just dozed off.

A totally different variation: where the woman is lying in bed and facing and talking with a woman with her back to the camera was published as a halftone in Camera Notes for January, 1898. I have also seen a variation published in 1905 in a German publication where the woman is sitting up on the side of the bed. (David Spencer, November 2006)
