I recognized the snow goggles and Mike Cowdrey confirmed the identity of this dashing subject, dressed up for his portrait. While sporting his effort at European style clothing, Cowdrey suggests he might be wearing a "Breed sash" around his waist. This 1/9 plate ambrotype on ruby glass could be by Whitney or Upton of St. Paul, Minnesota, as there are many stereo views of these Ojibwa's by them with their "Red River Carts." [Larry Gotheim]
