Vertical, black and white photograph. One view of the portrait of a man wearing dark garments, holding a hat, and standing in front of a stand - possibly a posing stand - in a photo studio, the man resting one of his hands on a side-table draped in table cloth on the left. The photograph is encased in a bronze-colored metal preserver frame and mat decorated and engraved with floral, leaf, diamond, and circular patterns. The back of the photograph depicts the following description in cursive: "Wm. Murphy Burglar English 21 yrs old 5 feet 9 1/2 Blue eyes Brown Hair florid complexion Weigh 140. Slim [illegible - builh? build?]. March [illegible - 27? 17?] 1867. [Illegible - writing is crossed out] H. Duffy."
