Ensign Worth Bagley, April 1898 before he was KIA making him the first casualty and only US Naval officer to be killed in the Spanish American War. Bagley was the Executive Officer of the USS Winslow. There's a statue commemorating Bagley on the grounds of the NC state capitol.
