Thus has been accomplished a survey of the Holy City and its immediate neighbourhood, with all the accuracy and detail of the Ordnance Survey of our own country. And a plan, admirably engraved from drawings executed on a scale sufficiently large to convey clearly even the minutest details, has been published, with various illustrative sketches; and accompanied also with a collection of photographs, all of them equally interesting and valuable, that were taken, while the survey was in progress, by Sergeant McDonald, who, as Sir Henry James has put it on record, "is both a very good surveyor and a very good photographer."
