Daguerreotypist who photographed the Crystal Palace Exhibition and worked as an assistant for Philip Delamotte.
Dr. Brian May, former guitarist with Queen and astronomer, became fascinated with the work of this photographer and in particular with his 1850s stereo photographs of an unidentified village in rural England. The village was identified as Hinton Waldrist in Oxfordshire in 2003. The quest is discussed by Brian May and his collaborator Elena Vidal in their book "A Village Lost and Found: Scenes in Our Village" (Frances Lincoln, 2009).
